On June 25, 2025, a devastating fire swept through Mananga 2, Tabunok, Talisay City. Mananga 2 is a densely populated inner city informal settlement. The fire ripped through the area where many of the homes are built of wood, bamboo and light materials. It left a trail of destruction and displaced over 1,000 individuals. Among them are 30 families from our Mercy in Action schooling program — whom lost everything.

These families are now living in evacuation centers or relying on the kindness of relatives, with little more than the clothes on their backs. Daily government food assistance will only last until June 30. After that, many will have nothing.

They Need Our Help Now

During our recent visit to the evacuation site, families expressed an urgent need for:

Clothing (especially underwear, t-shirts, and shorts)
Drinking water
Toiletries and hygiene items
Hot meals
Shelter materials to rebuild their homes

The local government are giving financial aid totalling £380 to each family, but it’s not enough to rebuild a home and cover their essential needs.
