We value the importance of education here in the UK as well as in the Philippines.   In Cebu, we currently support over 400 children on our education programme through child sponsorship. Most of these children are at schools in Talisay or Tapul.

We have some UK schools which have developed links with the schools on our education programme.   Children have loved writing to each other, learning about the similarities and differences of their education and daily lives.

We have also developed a Schools Resources Teaching Pack for UK schools as we feel that it is important for children in the UK to become aware of other children in a developing country.   The Mercy in Action Schools Resources Pack contains enough background information and lesson plans to hold a ‘Philippines Day’ at school.  To find out more or to download the lesson plans, please click here.

Schools Fundraising Ideas

Hold a ‘Philippines Day’ and request a donation from each child to take part in this day.

Contribute to our ‘Shoebox Appeal’ in October (so that the children in Cebu receive a Christmas present)

Hold a cake sale and donate the profits to Mercy in Action.

Hold a ‘coconut’ day and ask for donations: Learn about the importance of the coconut to the people of the Philippines. Set up a coconut shy, make coconut biscuits or get the children to try coconut water. Decorate a coconut or make a coconut bird-feeder. Ask for our ‘Coconut Day’ Resources Pack – information above.

Hold a Mercy in Action Fashion Show: We recently held a Fashion Show with vintage and designer clothes donated to our shops at a Bath school and raised a total of over £750 for the school and for  Mercy in Action. Contact us for details on how we can help you to organise this event.

Nominate Mercy in Action as your school’s charity of the term or year. A Bath primary school has raised over £2,500 for Mercy in Action by nominating us as their ‘International Charity of the Year’ and undertaking a huge range of sponsored events such as sponsored silences and sponsored runs. This fantastic achievement means that we have been able to install fresh, running water at the Children’s Centre.

It is also possible for a school to sponsor a child and thereby develop a lasting relationship with a child in the Philippines.
