Dickens Day in Olney

This year’s Dickens Day was a HUGE success for Mercy in Action. The team all gave up their weekends to raise an incredible £1300!

Fiona, Eileen and Gillian had worked tirelessly on Saturday to create the “Elves Grotto” – an outdoor Winter Wonderland for children. For £2, kids could enter the grotto and pick their own cuddly toy – which proved very popular! Thanks to the ‘Elves’, Hannah, Anna, Rachel and Ollie for braving the cold and raising £300. Mince pies, hot cordial and bric-a-brac filled with sweets were also on sale outside the shop to attract the passing crowds.

As well as the wonderful shop products, which includes a lot of vintage and designer items, there was also a raffle to keep the fundraising figures rising. Thanks to Linda and Allison for giving up their Sundays to volunteer, and to Fiona and Eileen for being there all weekend.

In addition to the £1300, the Olney shop has now raised over £250 for our Christmas Meal Appeal through customer donations.

So a massive thank you and well done to all the staff and volunteers at the shop, and also to all the customers who support us by donating and buying – we couldn’t do it without you!
